ICT Kids Online Brazil Findings
on Children and Intensive Internet use
Dr. Alexandre F. Barbosa
The Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br), a department of the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br), carries out annually the ICT Kids Online Brazil survey. The survey is aligned with the EU Kids Online framework designed by the London School of Economics and seeks to understand how the population aged 9 to 17 years uses the Internet and how they deal with risks and opportunities related to its use. In a country marked by social and economic inequalities with a large youth population that increasingly access the internet it is crucial to foster initiatives to raise awareness on the safe use of the internet. The series of the ICT Kids Online Brazil Survey is an important source of data for policymaking and contributes to promote the debate on digital rights, freedom of expression and privacy concerns.
